In April of 2023, 18 students from Booker T. Washington High School were afforded the life-changing opportunity to travel to New York City, and perform at Carnegie Hall. While performing at Carnegie Hall was the highlight of this amazing trip, for many of the students, this was the first time that they traveled beyond Pensacola’s city limits. While on this trip, the students received vocal instruction from the American Choral Directors Association President-Elect, Dr. Edith Copley, they experienced the Broadway musical “The Lion King,” explored the Empire State Building, and Time Square amongst many other cultural experiences.

Before the students went on stage to perform, they were educated about Carnegie Hall’s history, and many of the performers that have graced the stage that they were about to perform on (including Tchaikovsky, George Gershwin, Billie Holiday, the Rolling Stones, and Booker T. Washington).

Through the generosity and compassion of donors, such as Mr. Derrick Brooks and Derrick Brooks Charities, this trip, that seemed impossible, became a reality for these well deserving students. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!
