Northwest Florida Support Programs

Northwest Florida Supported Programs
In 2020, Derrick Brooks Charities: Northwest Florida was launched, to support the community and charitable organizations in Derrick Brooks hometown of Pensacola, and surrounding areas.
Some of the programs we support include O.J. Semmes Elementary School, NFL Flag Football, First Tee Gulf Coast, and James B Washington Education and Sports.
The same year, we began the Pensacola Golf Classic Celebrity Tournament to help support our efforts for the Northwest Florida community.
The Dixon School of Arts and Sciences
Dixon School of Arts and Sciences is a 501(c)(3) non-profit private school that uses the arts to inspire learning, creativity, and successful problem-solving. Students attending our school receive free education, transportation, and meals, provided they apply for the Step Up for Students income-based scholarship. The Dixon School of Arts and Sciences leverages engagement in the arts to teach traditional academic subjects through a creative, arts-integrated approach.
An arts-integrated curriculum propels children to participate more actively in their education, to retain what they learn, and to explore their creativity. We offer a dynamic Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) curriculum. Our mission is to promote a lifelong love of learning in all our students. We emphasize off-site excursions and community partnerships to drive academic experience.
We are a Title I school that emphasizes petite class sizes. With smaller class sizes, our teachers can more readily identify and meet the individual learning needs of all students. Our curriculum is designed for students with a strong interest and/or talent in the arts, science, engineering, and technology. We combine an exemplary fine arts program with a rigorous Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) curriculum.
Boys and Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast is an organization with a storied history of empowering young minds and fostering positive growth.
As a registered IRS 501(c)3 charity, our work would not be possible without the generous support of our community. Funding from contributions, special events, grants, and our valued donors, such as the Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation and United Way agencies in Escambia and Okaloosa/Walton Counties, enables us to continue making a positive difference in the lives of young individuals and their families.
With boundless enthusiasm and unwavering dedication, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast stands as a beacon of hope, empowering the youth and shaping a better tomorrow for our community. We look forward to the journey ahead and the opportunity to impact the lives of even more young people positively.
O.J. Semmes Elementary School
Nestled in the heart of Pensacola, Florida, O.J. Semmes is a beacon of hope for its PreK-5th grade students amidst the challenges of poverty. In a community where families often struggle to make ends meet, our school is a sanctuary, offering vital support to those in need. Many of our young scholars reside in one of 2 sizeable, subsidized housing projects with many cramped 2-bedroom apartments, sometimes accommodating as many as a dozen loved ones under one roof. It’s not uncommon for our home visits to reveal stark realities: homes without the necessities of running water or electricity, cupboards bare of sustenance, and hearts heavy with the burden of uncertainty.
Here at O.J. Semmes, we are not just a school, but a community that works tirelessly to give our students not just the necessary academics but also the emotional, social and strong stability needed to succeed every day. We are a “from the heart” kind of school, and we meet our students where they are each and every day. Over the past two years, our school has been improving the lives of our students with our academic focus and we are proud to say that our school grades have risen from an “F” to a “C”. It is not us alone that has helped the children attain this level; it is our entire community, Derrick Brooks Charities, and many dedicated volunteers who have also helped create our positive school environment. As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” We 100% believe that is true and are so grateful for all the support we receive each year.
Par Four Golf Club
The Par Four Golf Club, Inc. was established in 1968 by nine members “The Original Nine.” The creation was two-fold, to bring the game of golf to the young members of a neglected community and provide some form of support via time or money to worthy organizations in Escambia County. The current membership will continue to strive to represent those original members and uphold our organizational goal of “Celebrating the Accomplishments of Yesterday While Paving the Way for Tomorrow.”
First Tee Gulf Coast
First Tee is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, they create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. We’re Building Game Changers through our junior golf programs.
Nonie’s Place (Covenant Care)
For over 39 years, Covenant Care has provided grief therapy to children and teens living with the loss of a loved one. Now, we proudly introduce Nonie’s Place, where children embark on a shared journey toward healing their grieving hearts.
Located in Pensacola at 1901 N. Palafox Street, Nonie’s Place, powered by Covenant Care, connects families to free resources and mental health professionals who are eager to help any child or teen struggling with physical or cognitive challenges associated with grief and loss. Programs offered at Nonie’s Place will support children ages 5-18 and include one-on-one counseling, group therapy, peer support groups, art therapy studios, Camp Connect, Kids’ Wish, and community grief education.
At Nonie’s Place, families will find an inviting and safe environment, communities will find a place to help others in need, and children will find a place to be themselves and discover paths toward healing and hope.
Lighthouse Christian College
Vision
Lighthouse Christian College’s vision is to become a worldwide leader in online Christian education, equipping each graduate with the tools necessary to become visionaries in their chosen field and achieve excellence in a dynamic global community.
Values
In business, competition is something that one must learn how to manage strategically. Our college leaders believe that more competition brings more opportunities. Therefore, from an online Zoom debate to a fierce battle on the football field, LCC leaders do not apologize for emphasizing competition in academics and sports as part of our culture.
The primary focus, however, will always remain on learning ways to serve society in a Christ-like manner, putting God first and keeping the Lord as one’s cornerstone.
Fortune Favors The Bold
The program goal at LCC is to develop business and educational leaders who will bring innovative ideas to the world, contributing to the betterment of society. Earning your undergraduate degree in the business field can open doors to new opportunities, but earning a degree from Lighthouse Christian College will also add the element of preparing you for a successful life of service to Christ.
Communities Caring at Christmas
Since 1979, Communities Caring at Christmas has been helping provide new toys, clothing, and daily living needs for abused, neglected, and abandoned children living in foster care, children living in poverty, and adults with developmental disabilities in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties. This organization truly cares for the least of us and brings joy to those who otherwise might not experience joy during this “most wonderful time of the year.”
Again, this year, Community Health Northwest Florida is proud to partner with WEAR-TV to help maximize the reach and impact of Communities Caring at Christmas. We want to ensure that no family goes without this holiday season!
